Digital gold storage fees rise after free period ends, investors face hidden annual costs
Rising post-storage charges make digital gold costlier than ETFs or SGBs over long periods.
Consumer analysts reported that several digital gold providers, including MMTC-PAMP and SafeGold, have revised post-storage charges to ₹120–₹180 per gram per year after the initial five-year ‘free’ period.

With gold prices near ₹6,800 per gram, effective holding costs now exceed 2.6% annually, excluding GST on purchase.

Financial advisors recommend shifting to Gold ETFs or SGBs to avoid cumulative costs that can erode long-term returns, especially for holdings above ₹2 lakh.
