India plans mandatory labels on AI-generated content to curb misinformation and deepfake risk.
The Indian government has put forward a proposal that would require AI-generated visual and audio content to carry clear labels to combat misuse, disinformation and deepfakes. Under the draft rules, platforms must mark AI-generated images with a visible label covering at least 10% of the image, while audio clips must display a marker during their first 10%.
Companies would also need systems to verify content origin as part of metadata traceability efforts.
