Honda takes stake in India’s OMC Power to repurpose EV batteries for clean-energy storage, marking its entry into India’s distributed renewables market.
Japanese automaker Honda Motor Co. has acquired an equity stake in India’s OMC Power Pvt Ltd to develop clean-energy storage batteries. The deal marks Honda’s first move into India’s distributed renewable-energy market. OMC Power runs more than 500 renewable-energy plants across India supplying telecom, healthcare and rural users and plans to repurpose used EV batteries for grid/storage use in partnership with Honda from January 2026. Analysts say this signals global automakers’ deeper push into India’s clean-energy ecosystem.
