DGCA trims IndiGo capacity after sustained disruptions trigger regulatory action

Aviation authorities ordered a five percent cut in IndiGo’s daily flights after cancellations surged due to pilot shortages and aggressive winter capacity expansion, with further action under review.
Operational pressure on IndiGo intensified after the aviation regulator directed the airline to cut five percent of its daily flights, translating to a reduction of about 115 services from its roughly 2,300 daily operations. The move follows weeks of flight cancellations driven by a mismatch between increased winter capacity and new pilot duty time regulations that came into effect from November 1. While IndiGo raised daily domestic flights by six percent for the winter schedule, pilot availability did not expand at the same pace.
