8th Pay Commission to cover over 1.19 crore employees and pensioners as government defers rollout decision

Parliament was informed that more than 50.14 lakh Central government employees and around 69 lakh pensioners will come under the ambit of the 8th Central Pay Commission, with the government yet to decide the implementation timeline and funding. The commission was formally constituted and its Terms of Reference were notified on November 3, 2025. It will review revisions in pay, allowances, pensions, gratuity, and other benefits across government services, defence forces, union territories, and select constitutional bodies.
