The Income Tax Department has slowed refund processing for FY24–25 as it examines high-value and red-flagged claims, according to CBDT Chairman Ravi Agrawal. He confirmed that several refund requests showed wrongful or inflated deductions, prompting additional verification before release. While low-value refunds are already being credited, cases requiring deeper scrutiny are taking longer.
