India’s Jobless Ratio Falls to 5.2% in Q2 as Rural Employment Strengthens
India’s unemployment rate fell to 5.
According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) data for July – September 2025 (Q2 FY26), India’s unemployment rate slipped to 5.2% from 5.4% in the previous quarter. Rural joblessness dropped to 4.4% while urban unemployment rose slightly to 6.9%. Labour force participation rose to 55.1% from 55.0%, with female participation edging up to 33.7%. Despite the positive overall trend, youth unemployment (ages 15-29) climbed to 14.8%.

The data suggests improved rural labour absorption, especially in the Kharif season.
