US airlines brace for flight cuts amid record‑long shutdown
Flight cancellations escalate as U.
Major U.S. airlines are preparing for a third consecutive day of mandated flight reductions after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered a 4 % cut in daily traffic at 40 key airports due to an acute shortage of air‑traffic controllers working without pay.
The shutdown, now in its 40th day, has already led to around 1,550 cancellations and 6,700 delays in a single day. Cuts are set to rise to 6 % by 11 November and 10 % by next week unless the staffing gap is resolved.
