India rolls out a ₹1 lakh crore RDI scheme to accelerate private-sector research and innovation.
At the Emerging Science Technology and Innovation Conclave 2025 in New Delhi, the Indian government unveiled a new Research, Development & Innovation (RDI) scheme worth ₹1 lakh crore. The initiative aims to seed high-risk, high-impact private-sector research projects, reduce regulatory hurdles for prototypes, and propel the country from tech consumer to tech innovator. It seeks to strengthen the country’s innovation ecosystem and align with the goal of ‘Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan’. The reforms also include support for university-industry linkages and faster commercialisation of research.
