India to impose 30 % import duty on yellow peas from November 1

India will impose a 30 % duty on yellow-peas imports from 1 November to shield local farmers from cheap overseas supply.
The Indian government announced a 30 % import duty on yellow peas, effective 1 November, in a bid to support domestic farmers facing pressure from cheap imports. Shipments with a bill of lading dated 31 October or earlier will be exempt. India is the world’s largest importer of yellow peas, primarily from Canada and Russia. The move comes after domestic growers lobbied for protection, and follows earlier duty-free imports allowed until March 2026.
