Meta Platforms has recruited four senior researchers from OpenAI specialising in reinforcement learning and large-language model architectures, signaling a strategic intensification of its AI research efforts. The hires join Meta’s Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) unit and will work on next-generation foundation models and multimodal systems slated for 2026 release. Meta is also expanding its AI compute infrastructure in Iowa, adding capacity for multi-billion-parameter training.

While financial terms were undisclosed, the move underscores the ongoing escalation in AI talent competition among global technology firms.
