Hundreds of top economists, including ex-Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, have called for the creation of an independent global panel on income and wealth inequality. The proposed body would function like the IPCC - diagnosing causes of extreme wealth concentration and recommending policy action. Their appeal comes ahead of the 2025 G20 Summit in Johannesburg, where inequality is a key agenda item. The economists warn that unchecked wealth gaps threaten democracy, economic stability and social cohesion.
